Past Master Spotlight – Brother Edwin Farr

Edwin Farr, physician and surgeon, Eau Claire, came to Kenosha in 1855, and in 1870 to Eau Claire.

He was born in the town of Corinth, Vt., Aug. 24, 1832. He was educated at Castleton Medical College, Vermont, and graduated in 1851, and practicing at White River Junction, Vt., until he came to Wisconsin. He was assistant surgeon of the 2d Wis. V. I. for five months, and was with the 30th Wis. V. I. for nearly three years. He was post surgeon at Ft. Sully from July, 1863, to October, 1864, and had charge of the prison hospital at Louisville from January to August, 1865.

He was married at White River Junction, in January, 1855, to Emily L. Sawyer. They had two children, twins, Edwin B. and Emily B., born Aug. 14, 1867. They lost one child, who died in infancy. Dr. Farr was Mayor of Eau Claire and railroad surgeon for the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha and the Wisconsin & Minnesota Railway Companies.

Past Master Spotlight – Brother David Mahoney

d mahoneyBrother David Mahoney is the Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Knights Templar for Wisconsin.

He was born in Eau Claire, WI and married his wife Shirley in 1976.  They have three children, and three grand-children.  He is a veteran of the US Navy, and served in Vietnam.

David was raised a master mason in Waukegan Lodge 78 in Waukegan IL on April 3, 1972.  He served as Worshipful Master of Eau Claire Lodge 112 in 1977 and 1978.

Past Master Spotlight – Brother Lyle Koerner

Brother Koerner started his firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter for the Hazlehurst Volunteer Fire Department in 1979 and joined the Eau Claire Fire Department in 1983. He holds a Master of Science degree in Risk Control from the University of Wisconsin – Stout, a Bachelor of Science in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati, and an Associate degree in Applied Science – Fire Protection Technology from the Fox Valley Technical Institute. He also is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer program offered by the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Bro. Koerner is a current member of the State Fire Chiefs Association, Eau Claire County Fire Chiefs Association (including serving as President from 2002-2006), and Wisconsin Society of Fire Service Instructors. In addition to his association activities, he is an Instructor of Fire Services for the Chippewa Valley Technical College and a Lecturer for the University of Wisconsin – Stout where he teaches a course in Fire Protection and Prevention.

Bro. Koerner served six years in the Wisconsin Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge as a Sergeant E-5.  He lives in Eau Claire with his wife, Kathy.

Past Master Spotlight – Brother Jon Shimoda

Dr. Jon Shimoda grew up in the Detroit suburb of Taylor, Michigan. In high school he was active in the concert, marching and jazz bands and lettered on the schools state champion gymnastics team.

Undergraduate work was done at Michigan State University and a B.S. degree in Social Science earned in 1977. One academic year was spent at Konan University in Kobe, Japan. There, much of the focus was on the study of the Japanese martial art, Aikido.

After college he moved to Chicago, Illinois to continue Aikido study with Shihan Akira Tohei and earned his black belt in 1981. While in Chicago, he played bass guitar for an Elvis impersonator but during the day, he worked as a case work counselor and mental health therapist at the Japanese American Service Committee, the Lake View Mental Health Center and then the DuPage County Health Department.

Dr. Shimoda graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois in 1992 and moved to Eau Claire to work as a staff chiropractor for the Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire. In 2005 he left Group Health and practiced as an associate chiropractor at Chippewa Valley Chiropractic before starting his own practice, Care Full Chiropractic in 2006.

Dr. Shimoda is licensed in Nutritional Counseling and is Advanced Proficiency Rated in the Activator Method of Chiropractic Adjusting. He is married to Donna Shimoda and has 3 adult children.  He sings in the Scottish Rite and St. John’s Lutheran Church Choirs. Interests include family, music, motorcycles, reading and various physical and spiritual exercise.
